What is School-Based ABA Therapy?

School-based ABA therapy is exactly what it sounds like, ABA therapy that happens at your child’s school instead of (or alongside) a clinic or your home. A trained RBT works with your child during the school day, guided by a BCBA, so the skills they’re building show up where they actually need them: in the classroom, at recess, in the lunchroom, and during transitions.

Who’s who on your child’s team: A BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) designs your child’s plan, oversees progress, and trains your family. An RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) is the therapist who works one-on-one with your child each day.

Because the therapy happens in the real environment, there’s no "will this carry over?" guesswork. Your child practices communication, social, and behavior skills in the exact moments they come up.

What ABA Therapy in Schools Looks Like

During the school day, your child’s RBT is right there with them in class, at recess, and during the transitions that can be hard (such as moving between activities, switching subjects, or handling changes in the routine). Instead of pulling your child out for a separate session, we use what’s already happening in the room as the lesson. When a real moment comes up, that’s when we teach.

Over time, the goal is more independence, not more dependence on the therapist, so your child can do more on their own. A lot of that work centers on functional communication, and on the role you play as a parent to keep skills going at home.

It starts with a call. Bring your questions. From there, a BCBA meets you and your child for an initial assessment to understand their needs, then we handle intake (insurance details and the autism evaluation, we can request it from your doctor if you don’t have a copy) and get scheduling underway.
